Istituto Italiano di Cultura

The IIC of Los Angeles was founded in 1986, and moved to its current location in Westwood Village in 1995. For this purpose, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy purchased a small, 1950's Angelino-style building (the former UCLA International Student Center on Hilgard). Jurisdiction of the IIC's area includes Southern California, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico. Promotes Italian culture and recent artistic developments in all sectors: from film to theater, music to visual arts, literature to architecture and design, fashion and cuisine. A calendar of events is published by the IIC every six months, events are free of charge (but advance reservations are required). The IIC has its own theater: the Sala Rossellini, with 128 seats, projection room, large screen, a small stage for theater performances and a Fazioli Grand Piano for concerts. Art, photo, architecture and design exhibitions are housed in its gallery, Galleria Spazio Italia. For Euro-Italians, the local Italian glitterati, it is the premier spot on the Westside. Italian culture, the arts, and science in Los Angeles, with a strong emphasis on Italian cinema, and contemporary/modern art and design.
